Advice before practicing self-acu-yoga-massage techniques
Consult a physician before attempting any new exercises or techniques, especially if you have a health condition.
For best results, I suggest one-on-one sessions customized to you.
Don’t eat at least 2 hours before practicing
Be aware of your joints and do not collapse into them when performing techniques. Keep them strong and stable without rigidity.
There should be no force or straining in any of these positions.
If you feel and pain, STOP. DO NOT “push through” discomfort. I will offer you modifications for poses.
When utilizing massage techniques, use your body weight, not your muscle energy.
It helps to think of working your muscles out like pizza dough. You can use your fist and push dough around a good bit, but if you’re too rough it tears and create holes.
Focus on your breath, movements, and/or the sensations of “energy,” Qi, in the body.
When stimulating acupoints, the idea is to “get Qi.” This sensation can be felt in a few ways: electric ( like a rush of energy), warming, tingling, or that “good pain” we sometimes look for in a massage session.
Always have a pillow nearby and if you have long nails, have a pencil or two with erasers nearby too.
During most of the movements, once you’re situated with the points motions, you can receive a bigger benefit with eyes closed.
After completing an exercise, shake our your limbs when it feels right.
Once you know the points and movements, turn off my videos and voice and listen to your body and some tunes.
