Its always a good idea to consult your physician before starting any new exercise or techniques.
If you have serious heart disease, you should avoid this style.
If you have osteoporosis (brittle bones), gentle asanas can be beneficial, but this style should be avoided
If you are battling cancer, there are some very beneficial points for the side affects of treatments, such as nausea and anxiety, fatigue. I recommend speaking to your doctor first and doing a one-on-one session.
If you have a hernia, there are many asanas (poses) you should avoid. I recommend speaking with your doctor and doing a one-on-one session.
Localized contraindications include any skin infections, or open wounds, skin conditions such as eczema or psorisis, bruises, sun burn, circulatory problems, acute inflammation (the first 2 days of an injury), if there is a tumor, any spider veins or varicose veins, bleeding disorders, local areas with artificial joints. You can practice this style, but consider a one-on-one, or simply avoid certain asanas and and acupoints in the affected area.
If you are pregnant, it is best to go to an acupuncturist who specializes in pregnancy, or a prenatal massage therapist. Most asanas and massage techniques can be utilized, but avoid self-massage or acupressure of the lower abdominal region as well as the low back and sacrum(tailbone) areas. The acupoints that should be avoided during pregnancy: LI4, LU7, GB21, SP6, BL60, BL67.
